Wyndemere HOA Recommendations for Solar Panels
The Wyndemere HOA recommends the following to ensure uniform installation and design of solar energy systems.
- Homeowners should first consider existing structures and overall astatic appearance of panels before selecting the roof location. Consider talking with your neighbors to understand any changes to adjacent properties (such as tree growth) may impede the efficiently of your system.
- Many of the houses in our community still have their original roofs. As such it is encouraged that owners replace their roofing prior to the installation of solar panels. Replacing roofing a “few years later” is more costly as this requires the removal and reinstallation of the panels.
- All components of the solar system should be integrated into the design of the home. The color of the solar system components should generally conform to the color of the roof shingles to the extent practical. Solar “shingles” that mimic the look of a composite shingle are acceptable but should match the color of the current roof shingles as much as is practical.
- All city, county, and state building codes must be followed. Ensure you have a licensed contractor do the installation and piping/electrical connections will be located directly under and/or within the perimeter of the panels, when possible, and placed as inconspicuously as possible when viewed from all angles.
- It may go without saying but, get bids from multiple contractors as prices and services vary greatly. Call the county or elector provider to confirm rebates or grants. Speak with your tax preparer to confirm federal tax credits/benefits. Speak with other owners in our community that have had solar panels installed to understand what the actual saving they are seeing.
Please feel free to contact the Wyndemere HOA board should you have any questions.
